People come to yoga for all sorts of reasons and in different ways. For me it wasn’t the physical practice that I was drawn to at all but more the philosophy and the practical ways in which I could create a yogic lifestyle for myself.
I first came across yoga when I was a teenager and when I went to India with one of my best friends and her family. This was a pretty out there idea at the time as I grew up in a country town and hadn’t traveled internationally much at all. I had the wonderful opportunity to spend about a month in an ashram where we were immersed in practices rich with spiritual tradition. Getting up at 4:30/5 in the morning to go off to chant and meditate was not my norm to say least, especially as a teenager! This was a huge eye opener for me and I just relished in the joy of taking in the culture and tradition I was surrounded in. I remember learning about the Vedic teachings and Ayurveda, things that I had never been exposed to before but seemed to make a lasting impression on me. My time in India really planted a seed for me later on in life.
Fast forward about 10 years and I was living in England at that stage and had a really steady yoga practice at a Buddhist Centre not too far from my home. I loved it there! My teachers were amazing and for the first time I started thinking about the possibility of becoming a yoga teacher. I’d spent years working in hospitality and using it as a way to travel but I was looking for a change. I decided to return to Australia and re-locate to Melbourne where I went on to study yoga! I started with a general teacher training but have gone on to complete a graduate certificate in Yoga Therapy and then a certification in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga, amongst others.
The thing about yoga is that there is ALWAYS so much more to learn. It’s been an ongoing journey and my own personal practice has changed a lot, therefore my teaching has too! What I love about yoga is that is has supported me through the ups and downs of my own life and I am so very fortunate to witness it doing the same for others in many different ways! I’m always getting feedback from participants and private clients about how yoga has helped them manage the many challenges that life throws at them, it seems to be a general theme. This is one of the main reasons why I called my business Change With Yoga!
I feel so incredibly blessed to be offering yoga in the way that I do. I love the variation not only in the work that I do but also the people that I meet. It’s so wonderful that yoga is more accessible these days and that there are many ways for people to engage in a practice that is useful to them. Yoga helps us to slow down enough to reconnect with ourselves so that we are more able to create genuine connections with those around us too. It’s like a little slice of magic that we can tap into at any time that helps us navigate this tricky world that we live in. Wishing you all the best on your yoga journey; whatever that happens to look like for you!
I am a registered level 2 member with Yoga Australia and am a certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapy. I'm also certified through the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute to facilitate Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga sessions (TCTSY-F). To learn more about my qualifications, click here.
Yin Sound Spa
This workshop is a unique opportunity to experience yin yoga immersed in soothing sound vibrations.
Yin yoga is designed to target the more subtle tissues of your body such as fascia, ligaments, tendons and bones, and works closely with meridian theory; promoting healthy chi flow. Together we’ll journey through a full body yin practice while bathing in the healing sounds and vibrations of the singing bowl and gong! These sounds are delivered in specific tones designed to resonate with the part of your body we’re targeting in the yin sequence.
This workshop is perfect if you’re in need of some YOU time and if you are curious about the energy body.
